Elaine Smith has been at AHA for 11 years. She was the middle school language arts teacher for 2 years and vice principal for secular studies for 9 years. She is currently serving as the Interim Principal. Prior to Addlestone Hebrew Academy, she taught high school English, served as English Department Chairman and was a librarian for 30 years. Throughout her career she has been actively involved in sponsoring school activities including the Junior National Honor Society, cheerleader coach, and service learning advisor. She was selected Teacher of the Year at Hanahan Middle School and Addlestone Hebrew Academy and a semi finalist for Berkeley County Teacher of the Year. Elaine earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia College in Columbia, SC and earned her Master’s Degree plus 30 hours from the The Citadel. She currently lives in Mt. Pleasant with her husband Mike. She has one daughter, 2 grandchildren, and one granddog.

Chantal has been the Early Childhood Vice Principal since August 2007. Prior to that she was the director of Student Support Services at Addlestone Hebrew Academy for 7 years. Chantal came to Addlestone upon arriving in the United States from South Africa, where she trained and worked as a school psychologist and a counseling psychologist both in private practice as well as school settings. Her other work experiences include social science research and middle and high school guidance counselor. Her aspirations for the early childhood program are: maintaining and improving the NAEYC standards, involving parents in the Jewish education of their children, developing an environmentally friendly culture, learning the Reggio Emilia approach to early learning and working steadily at making adaptations during this process. Chantal enjoys learning new things and sharing them with her colleagues. She has two sons at Addlestone, a first grader and an 8th grader and so has personal as well as professional experience with all the classes in the school. |

Dror Karavani came to Charleston from Kiryat Melachi, Israel in August 2000 with his wife Irit, and their 4 children, Oded, Ido, Ohad and Hadar. He has been teaching at Addlestone ever since, and he is now the Vice Principal of Judaic Studies.
Dror studied at Ohr Etzion yeshiva. He then attended a Hesder Yeshiva, which combines Judaic studies with service in the army. As a soldier, he was assigned to a tank division. He completed his B.A. at the Herzog Institute, and his M.A. is from Lander College in Israel. He also worked at Kiryat Melachi, where he was vice principal at the Etzion Elementary School and was also responsible for teacher development. In previous years, Dror worked as a teacher, organized cooperative learning activities, and planned field trips. He has written and published a one-year course "Sages of Israel," which includes students' workbooks. He has also worked as a youth leader for B'nei Akiva, a Zionist youth movement.
Dror has been part of the City Council and has worked as an advisor on educational issues and created educational opportunities for underprivileged families. He was instrumental in organizing the Partnership 2000 program with the Jewish Agency and communities in the western U.S. This is a program that helps both communities better understand each other's culture and customs. |

Julie Murden is in her seventh year as a classroom teacher at Addlestone Hebrew Academy. She has taught 1st and 3rd grades and is currently the acting lower school principal. Julie is a native of Charleston and graduated from the College of Charleston with a BS Degree in Elementary Education and a Master Degree in Early Childhood Education. Over the last several years, she has acquired thirty additional graduate course hours. Recently, she was awarded the Lower School Teacher of the Year for South Carolina Independent Schools and was names Master Teacher for SCISA in August. Prior to teaching at AHA, Julie taught at the Early Childhood Development Center, Ashley Hall and First Baptist School. She has thirty years of teaching experience. She has served in many community and church organizations such as: VBS coordinator and instructor, South Carolina Math Council, teacher in Sunday school settings, social coordinator, and conference leader for VBS and NAEYC. Julie currently resides in West Ashley with her husband, son and 2 Yorkshire Terriers. Julie’s goals for this school year are to teach the third graders to think critically and problem solve with confidence, assist the teachers as a liaison between the administration and faculty, apply for an Early Childhood doctorate program at a state university and attend and participate in several SCISA programs and conferences. |

Nancy Peeples has worked at Addlestone Hebrew Academy since 1998 teaching 5th grade secular studies and middle-school social studies. She has served as the student council advisor for nine years. Prior to working at AHA, Nancy taught at the Runnels School in Baton Rouge, LA, St. Pauls Academy, and Sea Island Academy. Throughout her career Nancy has taught numerous middle and high school subjects, served as high school guidance counselor, and coached middle and high school sports. She was selected coach of the year while at Sea Island Academy and teacher of the year at Addlestone Hebrew Academy. Nancy earned a B.A. degree in Behavioral Science from Erskine College and earned her M.A. in Education from Louisiana State University.

After earning her degree in art and psychology, Lori Gleaton worked in the software industry for over ten years as a Computer Graphics Designer and Project Marketing Manager. When her children were born she started her own business designing custom stationery. As her children got older she realized the value of a Jewish Education. She saw her children blossom at Addlestone Hebrew Academy and eagerly joined the staff in 2007. Her three children all continue to thrive at AHA and are happy, successful and well educated students! |

Sarah Evans is in her second year as Director of Development at Addlestone Hebrew Academy. A native of Anderson, South Carolina, Sarah is a graduate of Wofford College where she received a BS in Psychology and played soccer. Prior to arriving at AHA, she served as an AmeriCorps VISTA working with the South Carolina Association of Community Development Centers and the College of Charleston. While at the SCACDC, she assisted CDC’s across the state with a number of things including grant writing and affordable housing issues. While at CofC, she served as the Civic Engagement Coordinator facilitating volunteer opportunities and projects for the students as well as taught Service Learning to volunteer groups and classes. Sarah has worked with a number of non-profits including Prevent Abuse Anderson, Habitat for Humanity, Lowcountry Food Bank, Save Darfur Coalition, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics and Unified Sports. Sarah currently resides in James Island with her dog, Bodie. |

I live with my husband and our one year old son Adi.. Originally I am from the Netherlands. Five years ago I met my husband in Israel and moved to the Florida. In Florida I taught for 1 ½ year old to 3 year old children. Three years ago I moved to Charleston and started working here at Addlestone. Currently I am teaching in the Tiny Tots Class. I like it a lot. I have a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a second bachelor’s in Remedial Teaching.

Tashia Smith is originally from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She moved to Charleston 10 years ago for a change and to attend school. Tashia currently has an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Child Care Management. She's worked at Addlestone for the last seven years. Throughout her time here she has had the opportunity to teach the Tiny Tots, Two's, Three's and Four's. During her spare time she loves to watch old black and white movies, cooking shows and dramas. She also values spending time with family and friends. She was recently blessed with two angel children, Kameron (in EC2 at AHA) and Kyra (2 months old). Viewing preschool from her children's eyes rather than her teacher's perspective has been really fun! She looks forward to a great new year with EC3 and the Addlestone community! |

Vernell was born and educated in Charleston County where she received her early education. She entered the military and served with the U.S Marine Corps as an Administrative Chief, until she retired as a Master Sergeant in 1991. Upon retirement, she went into the Criminal Justice field as Secretary to the Director of the Beaufort County Jail.
Upon leaving the Criminal Justice field, she enrolled at the Bible College in Dallas, Texas. After graduation she began working for a local children’s educational learning center. She has always had a love for children and used her gifts and talents as a caregiver to nurture children.
Her artistic talents, evident since the age of three, have been on display at the Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce and the Gullah Creations Gallery on Hilton Head.
She is the illustrator of a Gullah folktale children’s book entitled Try’umsee’s Wings published in 2005. |

I graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in Early and Elementary Education. This is my sixth year at AHA teaching EC4. I love scrap booking, cooking and going to the beach! Makala Boczkowski graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Early Childhood Development. Theresa Berard is very excited to be the new teacher assistant for EC4. She just completed her bachelor's degree in English and Spanish from Wofford College and is now pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching in Early Childhood Education at the College of Charleston. She has worked at numerous summer camps for the past six summers throughout the Charleston area. In addition, she is a certified English as a Second Language teacher and worked as an intern in an elementary school in Spain to help teach English. Shawn Shelley was born and raised in Pawleys Island, SC. She went to Waccamaw High School and attended the College of Charleston. She lived in downtown Charleston for six years and later traveled to California. She lived in both San Diego and San Francisco for about a year and had a wonderful experience. After leaving the West Coast, Shawn moved to Alexandria, Virginia where she worked for the JCC of Fairfax County. She absolutely loved it! When Shawn finally returned to Charleston, she began working on her Early Childhood Education degree. With her degree still in progress, Shawn looks forward to the learning experiences she will have at Addlestone. |

Dallas Hutsell was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. She attended the University of Texas and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Studies. She is a BIG Texas Longhorns fan! When she graduated from college, she taught 4th grade for two years and 3rd grade for two years.
In 2008, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert. Robert is in the Air Force, and upon completion of pilot training in July of 2008, he and Dallas received their first assignment to Charleston, SC. The couple packed their bags and moved to Charleston in January 2009.
Dallas enjoys spending time with Robert, family and friends. She also enjoys reading, watching football, and teaching. She is excited to be working with the staff and children at Addlestone Hebrew Academy!

Jennifer Eisenhart, a native of Charleston, spent the majority of her youth in the northeast. She attended Frostburg State University in western Maryland, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood/Elementary Education N-6. Upon graduation Jennifer moved to New Iberia, Louisiana and taught at-risk preschool for two years. After marrying in 1998, she returned to Charleston. Jennifer began teaching kindergarten at Charlestowne Academy, a public magnet school, where her class was recognized for 2 consecutive years as one of eleven in the state to obtain 100% first grade reading readiness. Jennifer also has a Masters degree in Educational Assessment and Evaluation from American InterContinental University.
In the summer of 2001, Jennifer celebrated the birth of her first child and left the classroom for three years. During this time she continued teaching as a Homebound Teacher for Charleston County. She joined the faculty at Addlestone Hebrew Academy in 2004 as an EC3 lead teacher. Since joining AHA she has also taught EC4 and is currently teaching first grade. Jennifer enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as reading, photography, scrapbooking, and traveling. Jennifer is married to her husband of eleven years, Tony. They have three children, Rachel, Patricia, and Alex, who all attend AHA.

I received a BS in Biology from Wake Forest University and worked in a research lab for several years. My husband, Harry, is a Pediatric Dentist and served in the army for 20 years. He is currently teaching at MUSC. During the years in the military community, I stayed home to raise two sons and volunteered in the church, schools, and community. One of my activities was as a coach for problem solving teams competing in the Odyssey of the Mind. I became certified to teach in 1994 by completing course work at the College of Charleston. After teaching 3rd Grade at Mt. Zion Elementary School on Johns Island for four years, I came to Addlestone Hebrew Academy and have been teaching second grade for 10 years. I have co-directed two school musical productions at Addlestone and have produced a 2nd grade play every year.
My hobbies include singing, painting, sewing and quilting, jewelry-making, reading, and solving puzzles. I sing in the choir at my church and help lead the singing for young children at Sunday school. I have sewn clothing, quilts, curtains, and costumes. I enjoy designing and making jewelry, reading the latest novels, and doing all kinds of puzzles: jigsaw, Jumble, crypto quotes, logic problems, and logic pictures. I enjoy interacting with people, working with children, learning new things and teaching others, all of which keep me happy in my chosen profession. |

Coach Karen is from North Palm Beach Florida; she attended Guilford College and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine. In addition, she is a Board Certified Athletic Trainer, EMT, personal trainer. One of her most important jobs is being a mother, to her daughter named Sydney.
According to Coach Karen,”I can't think of a better way to spend my days than playing games with such wonderful children.”

Deborah is from Boone, North Carolina (Go Tarheels!!!) and was raised on a farm. She graduated from Appalachian State University. She is married with 2 adult daughters, and 3 wonderful grandchildren. Deborah is a voracious reader and loves to spend a lot of time outside, gardening, walking, playing sports, or doing just about anything that involves the outdoors.
Deborah has been at Addlestone since 2005 and loves the cozy, familial feeling. According to Deborah, “The emphasis at AHA is on the students and what is best for them. The teacher/student ratio is any teacher's dream. It allows us the capability of assessing and focusing on the needs of each individual student. Addlestone is such a luxury compared to a public school. What's not to love?”

Fletcher completed his English and Art degree in 1987 and his Post Graduate teaching qualification a few years later. In between Fletcher worked for a record company, as a clerk in the Houses of Parliament, and as a sessions musician on various recording and performance projects. Fletcher started teaching at Cullompton Community College in the west of England in 1996.
Fletcher’s interest in art has always been a major part of his life, and in 2002 the British Council sponsored an exhibition of his work at the New York ArtExpo. As his paintings became shown in galleries in the US Fletcher and his family considered moving to America, and they did this in 2003.
By lucky chance Fletcher met Rabbi Delouya in an immigration attorney’s office, and he has been teaching at AddlestoneHebrewAcademy ever since. His current duties include teaching Literature, Art, and Computers, and every two years he has been involved in putting on a theatrical production at the school.

Mrs. Hawkins is a veteran science teacher with 15 years of experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia and a Master of Arts degree from the Citadel. She spent several years teaching at Wando and North Charleston High Schools. She returns to Addlestone after a few years absence to take over the science program for grades 5-8. Libby Summerford has enjoyed teaching in Charleston for over twenty years, both in elementary, middle and high school settings. She received her B.A. Degree in elementary education from Clemson University and has been passionate about teaching ever since. Her experiences have included teaching grades 1-12 as well as acting as development director and school secretary. Her favorite area, however, has always been middle school. She and her husband, Bryan, recently moved out to Hollywood (S.C.) where they have taken up golf. Her daughter Ryan is twenty-eight, married, and a nutritionist in Durham, N.C. Her son, Hunt, is twenty-four and lives in Charleston. Libby is excited to be returning to Addlestone and looks forward to seeing old friends and getting to know new ones.

Mottie was born in Neubrucke, Germany while her father was in the Army and moved to Charleston when she was two years old. She graduated from Ashley Hall, obtained her BS degree from Clemson University, and earned her MAT in English from The Citadel. While at The Citadel, she was a graduate assistant at The Writing Center. Her teaching career also includes time at Johnson & Wales University, former Middleton High School, and James Island Charter High School. Her family consists of her husband – Paul, daughter – Eliza, sons – Ron, Derrick and Owen. Her pets include a cat named Betz and a Jack Russell Terrier named Clifford. |

Katya Pekar has taught music at AHA for seven years. She earned her BA at the College of Music and her MA at the State Conservatory of Saint-Petersburg, Russia. She began educating children at the age of eighteen, teaching piano, music theory, ear-training, preparation courses for preschoolers, as well as groups of children with special needs. Seven years before moving to United States in 2002, she worked at the Jewish Community Center of Saint-Petersburg teaching music, art, mathematics, and directing Sunday school. Her approach to teaching music at Addlestone is a combination of learning music as a structured language with creativity and emotional self-expression. Katya has two sons, both attending Addlestone. |

Jodie grew up in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia before moving down to Charleston for College. She attended the College of Charleston and received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Special Education with a focus in teaching students with Learning Disabilities. She spent nine years teaching special education in the public school system, then took two years off to stay home with her oldest child before joining Addlestone’s Resource Department in 2006.
In her free time Jodie loves to be with her family riding bikes, swimming, going to various local parks, and traveling to Atlanta, West Virginia, and Virginia to visit their extended families. She also enjoys playing soccer, tennis, walking, reading, writing, cooking and listening to music. According to Jodie, “I love being a part of Addlestone and truly enjoy working with the wonderful students here. It is so much fun to watch them blossom throughout each year.” |

Margaret is a native South Carolinian who grew up and went to public schools here in Charleston and on James Island. She put herself through college while raising two children and graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. She worked in the public and private schools of Charleston for 25 years and loves teaching and receives great pride in seeing her students once they have grown up and hearing the memories of her as their teacher and what impact their year together made on them.
Margaret has considered Addlestone her home since 2006, and says the impact that the school, community, parents and students have made on her life and career is phenomenal.
She adores living in the Lowcountry and has a great passion for any activity which involves interaction with the environment such as boating, fishing, beachcombing, and simply walking on the beach. In her leisure time she also enjoys reading and listening to music. Above all this, her family is most important. She is extremely proud of her children and their successes. Her son is a psychologist in Richmond, VA, and her daughter is an Occupational Therapist here in Charleston. In addition, she is blessed with a beautiful grandson Miles who happens to be the absolute joy of her life. |

Dallas Hutsell was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. She attended the University of Texas and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Studies. She is a BIG Texas Longhorns fan! When she graduated from college, she taught 4th grade for two years and 3rd grade for two years.
In 2008, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert. Robert is in the Air Force, and upon completion of pilot training in July of 2008, he and Dallas received their first assignment to Charleston, SC. The couple packed their bags and moved to Charleston in January 2009.
Dallas enjoys spending time with Robert, family and friends. She also enjoys reading, watching football, and teaching. She is excited to be working with the staff and children at Addlestone Hebrew Academy!

Dror Karavani came to Charleston from Kiryat Melachi, Israel in August 2000 with his wife Irit, and their 4 children, Oded, Ido, Ohad and Hadar. He has been teaching at Addlestone ever since, and he is now the Vice Principal of Judaic Studies.
Dror studied at Ohr Etzion yeshiva. He then attended a Hesder Yeshiva, which combines Judaic studies with service in the army. As a soldier, he was assigned to a tank division. He completed his B.A. at the Herzog Institute, and his M.A. is from Lander College in Israel. He also worked at Kiryat Melachi, where he was vice principal at the Etzion Elementary School and was also responsible for teacher development. In previous years, Dror worked as a teacher, organized cooperative learning activities, and planned field trips. He has written and published a one-year course "Sages of Israel," which includes students' workbooks. He has also worked as a youth leader for B'nei Akiva, a Zionist youth movement.
Dror has been part of the City Council and has worked as an advisor on educational issues and created educational opportunities for underprivileged families. He was instrumental in organizing the Partnership 2000 program with the Jewish Agency and communities in the western U.S. This is a program that helps both communities better understand each other's culture and customs. |

Alli is a native New Yorker who has attended Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem for Jewish Pedagogical Studies, earned a BS in Elementary Education at the State University of New York at New Paltz, and a MA in Elementary Education at Adelphi University. She taught in the New York City Schools, Creative Spark in Charleston, and have been teaching at AHA since 2003.
Alli prides herself in thinking creatively and inspiring others to get excited about learning about the community and world around them. Whether the project is about repairing the world through tzedakah or learning about history through reading and writing, she gets excited working with students at all levels. Alli incorporates the arts throughout her teaching!
At home, Alli loves to celebrate each day with her husband Scott and their children Sierra and Justin. Together they cook, read, travel, practice karate, and pray. Her personal hobbies are creating beaded jewelry, cooking (She loves the Food Network and cook books), and talking. |

She attended the Chafetz Chayim Yeshiva and served in the Sherut Leumi (National Service) as a teacher. She also worked with the Magen David Adom, the equivalent to the Red Cross, where she provided relief, support and counseling during critical stress situations.
Irit has degrees in Technical Support, Computer Sciences, and Education as well as a B.A. in Communications. She has worked as a leader in the B'nei Akiva movement and has taught at the elementary and secondary levels in computer and Judaics. |

Morah Riki came to Charleston as an envoy from the Jewish Agency, and has taught grades 4 through 8 Judaic/Hebrew since 2001. She is the mother of three children. Her hobbies include sports, folk dancing and listening to music. |

Shlomi Netanel was born in Israel to an Orthodox family. In Israel, he was very involved with planning and participating in children's holiday celebrations, like Simchat Torah and Rosh Chodesh. He came to the United States in 2001 and was eager to get involved with the Jewish community and the school here. At AHA, Shlomi is known for his smiling face, outgoing personality and imagination. He uses these to the children's advantage when using "Benzi," the puppet that helps EC4 and Kindergarten children learn conversational Hebrew, and during "Joyful Noise" each Friday when he leads Shabbat celebrations for the EC program. Shlomi received a national award, the Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for Excellence in Jewish Education, in 2007 for his innovative and energetic contributions to Judaic teaching. Shlomi has a wonderful wife, Riki, and three great children, all three of whom attend AHA. |

Rabbi Adam J. Rosenbaum is excited to be teaching at AHA. He became the spiritual leader of Synagogue Emanu-El in July of 2009; prior to that he was the Assistant Rabbi at Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston, NJ. Ordained as a Conservative rabbi by the Jewish Theological Seminary, Rabbi Rosenbaum loves teaching the riches of Jewish heritage. He and his wife, Ellen Miriam Brandwein, are the proud parents of Shoshana (an AHA student) and Jonathan (a future AHA student). |

Tsivia Browdy was born and raised on Kibbutz Kfar Hanassi in Israel's
Galilee. Tsivia moved to the United States in 1988 with her husband
Craig. They settled in Hilton Head, SC and raised Kim and Shani there
before moving to Charleston in 2000. While in Hilton Head, Tsivia worked
at Sea Pines Montessori School for five years. Kim and Shani attended
Addlestone Hebrew Academy from 2000 through graduation, and Tsivia's
son, Allon, is a second grader having attended AHA since Tiny Tots.
